- One of the more beautiful music venues in SF. It can get very hot and stuffy on summer nights but during the fall it's perfect. Drinks are cheap and some of the house cocktails are really fun.
- My favorite venue in San Francisco. Get early for balcony seats or just to get close to the stage. Great food as well, share a sundae, it's friggin' huge! Upstairs bathroom is more convenient btw.
- Damian BayonaDecember 11, 2018You can get a 3 course meal and premium seating (which is rad) just get there before the show so you aren’t trying to eat your salad while others are rocking out near you.
- Brienne Lee BrownOctober 30, 2015If you can get a seat downstairs, do that. It's hard to see from the balcony unless you're in the front row. Beautiful historic building!
- It was years after I had moved to SF and seen a few shows at GAMH that I realized I recognized it from a Robin Williams concert I'd seen on HBO. Beautiful still. One of my favorite venues in SF.
- Brian StraussApril 19, 2022An extremely intimate venue to catch rising stars and the side projects of established acts. The immediate surroundings are pretty desolate after the show in the post pandemic era.
- Amazing venue. Quality sound. I usually start down stairs then peruse from above.
- squeaselOctober 7, 2014Gorgeous small venue. I love the ceiling. Get there early, especially for partially seated shows, if you want to be able to see well.
- One of my favorite concert venues in the city. Definitely go here if you haven't, and even if you have!
- Roc NationJune 8, 2011Beautifully and intricately crafted balconies, marble pillars, and a small stage. Catch a great-sounding unplugged show, or prepare for hearing loss on any night when the indie rock bands roll in.
- Justin SullivanNovember 2, 2015The upstairs restrooms are past the bar to the right and usually have a shorter line.
- Always a good time her. Always. Beautiful music venue with history seeping out of its pores
- Anna LouFebruary 19, 2017We ordered a giant sundae to share while we waited for the main act. Felt like a real dinner and show date night.
- Daniel SalinasAugust 15, 2011A beautiful building with a great upstairs area. If the concert is sold out, you can often get a dinner ticket for a little bit extra.
- Amy BJuly 1, 2015Super friendly, helpful employees. Great intimate place to see great bands cheaply.
- Ian WalterMay 10, 2015Another great SF venue with good sound. Don't tell people about the secret upstairs bar and bathroom.
- Mariah MApril 25, 2015great balcony view. the upstairs toilets are nicer than downstairs and theres usually no line.
- Beautiful, intimate venue. Easily one of the best venues in SF.
- there's more bathrooms & a bar upstairs...plus views from the balcony look alot like what lincoln saw when he got shot
- EmmisaurMay 31, 2014decently priced drinks, small intimate venue. loved it! will have to remember they don't take Amex.
- Gerard ReyesNovember 17, 2014Utilize the upstairs seating, bars, or restrooms to avoid the crowd downstairs
- MazdaNovember 15, 2010Long-time customers and newcomers alike feel at home in the 5,000-square-foot concert hall that symbolized renewal and optimism when it opened in 1907.
- Erin FreyFebruary 27, 2013Take off your hats and panda ears (seriously people, panda ears?). Love, all the short people.
- Mike KelbermanJuly 22, 2023They allow reentry so you can throw your merch in the car between openers
- Christine MaggioMarch 20, 2011If you're attending with someone with a disability, talk to the staff - they were super helpful and let us sit in the paid dinner section even though we didn't pay extra for the dinner ticket.
- The view from the balcony is great, plus no one will step on your toes. Get there early to grab seats.
- Diego RufoMarch 24, 2011There's excellent views from the upstairs balcony...get there early and you can get a table overlooking the stage. Read more
- After the show, head to Whiskey Thieves or Edinburgh Castle to keep the party going.
- The guys working the door are great hosts! Helped me find my wallet after I accidentally trashed it. Even provided latex gloves!
- SharonDecember 1, 2010Saw fun. there in October. Small venue (comparable to the Troubadour in Los Angeles), beautiful interior.

Each person who wants a drink has to stand in line. This is not efficient and makes it super crowded. Also, their drinks are weak.
- Shahasp ValentineAugust 6, 2019II used to love GAMH. Recently I spraining my left ankle badly. I was treated unbelievably rudely by the staff. It is shocking that an injured customer would be allowed to leave
