HISTORY UK: Europe’s largest brick building was given classical flair by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The station went off-line in 1983. In 2010 plans were approved for redevelopment into offices and homes.

HISTORY UK: This Palladian villa was built in the 1720s for the Countess of Suffolk, a mistress of George II. Here she would entertain the poet Alexander Pope and the satirist Jonathan Swift.
HISTORY UK: No dogs are allowed in this 17th century aristocratic home, so if you see one it will be the ghost of the Duchess of Lauderdale’s dog. She herself was once a famously beautiful and ambitious resident.
