Costiera meaning coastal, represents our quest to find the finest vineyard lots in the sonoma coast. This pinot noir is blended from three such vineyards --- the famed peters vineyard, the storied nuptial vineyard, & the sought after widdoes vineyard ---- each near the town of sebastopol in the cool russian river valley. While these vineyards are planted to low vigor rootstalks, meticulous farming ensures vine balance & keeps yields at or below 2 tons per acre.
2009 Sangiovese
30.00
Our founder, edoardo seghesio, first worked w/ sangiovese in the late 1800s during his tenure as winemaker at italian swiss colony. In 1910, he planted a chianti field blend surrounding the railroad station in what was then chianti, california. Those sangiovese plantings on our home ranch are the oldest in america & provided the rich source of four unique clones for our subsequent plantings of the variety. Although sangiovese typically grows vigorously, the low-yielding, shallow soils of our home ranch, combined w/ our small-berried clones, produce wines of intense varietal character. This wine has concentrated red fruit notes of raspberry & cherry w/ a hint of anise. A cool entry w/ nice acidity leads to a rich mid-palate & lingering finish
2011 Sonoma Zinfandel
24.00
Seghesio family vineyards’ roots are firmly planted in zinfandel, as our founder, edoardo seghesio, first planted this historic varietal on our alexander valley home ranch in 1895. today, we share his passion as we farm estate zinfandel in alexander & dry creek valleys. This wine combines sites that have produced zinfandel for over a century w/ newer sites that utilize proprietary clones & the most advanced viticultural practices
2010 Rockpile Zinfandel
38.00
With our family's first planting of zinfandel in sonoma county in 1895, we began to seek out vineyards which showcase sonoma as the worlds premier appellation for zinfandel. Rockpile, a narrow ridge some 1200 feet above dry creek valley, is just one of those areas. Steep, well-drained hillsides w/ shallow, rocky topsoil provide for less vigorous vines, smaller berries & intensely flavored zinfandel. 2007 vintage: 92pts wine spectator 2009 vintage: 90pts wine spectator
2010 Cortina Zinfandel
38.00
Cortina, the dominant soil type of our vineyard, is a gravelly loam that contributes to dry creek valleys reputation as one of the finest places in the world to grow zinfandel. Good fruit concentration & elegance w/ supple mid-palate dark fruit. Raspberry, black currant & subtle pomegranate flavors w/ white chocolate undertones distinguished varietal appeal. Aromas of black raspberry & mineral w/ a hint of violet. Ripe acidity, integrated tannins & structured to last. - Ted seghesio
2009 San Lorenzo

Rachel ann passalacqua met eugene “pete” seghesio when he purchased her father’s grapes from the san lorenzo vineyard in southernmost alexander valley. In 1956, the couple was married. Seghesio farms now manages that same vineyard, purchased in 1896 by rachel ann’s grandfather for the sum of ten gold coins. At that time, the vineyard was already planted to & producing a zinfandel field blend. Today, it represents our oldest heritage vineyard site. The 2009 san lorenzo is a blend of 70% zinfandel, 30% petite sirah. 92pts robert parker's wine advocate, 93pts wine enthusiast, 94pts wine spectator
2009 Defiant
48.00
Our great-grandmother, angela, directed the company from prohibition until her death in 1957. at the celebration of our centennial in 1995, wine industry icon mario perelli-minetti toasted angela & the “defiant” attitude w/ which she faced the industry’s challenges. That day was the first time we heard the word used to describe our family & it has resonated ever since. When you consider those who have followed her, angela clearly instilled this trait in her descendents, as we remain, defiantly, one of the few sonoma county wineries still family-owned & operated since before prohibition
2011 Barbera
38.00
Edoardo seghesio immigrated to america in 1886 from the piedmont region of italy, home to barbera. In 1895, he planted his first vineyards to grapes he had come to enjoy in his new country, yet one vineyard was saved for varietals from his homeland. Our historic, proprietary barbera clones benefit from the warm, dry days in northern alexander valley, where the grape’s classic acidity creates a wine w/ vibrant aromas & a velvety texture.
2009 Venom
54.00
Growing & producing world class sangiovese is not for the faint of heart. Rattlesnakes, thistle & america’s most unique clone of sangiovese are all that thrive atop rattlesnake hill on the seghesio home ranch. The 40% slope, shallow topsoil & virtually impenetrable volcanic shale are the perfect antidote for taming this vigorous varietal into producing intensely flavored grapes. The clone, planted in 1910 by edoardo seghesio in america’s oldest sangiovese vineyard,
2011 Block 8 Zinfandel
32.00
When rachel ann passalacqua seghesio’s grandfather first purchased the san lorenzo vineyard in 1896 w/ gold coins he earned working as a chef in california’s gold mines, it was already planted to zinfandel. Block 8 was planted over a decade ago on the hills of san lorenzo w/ scion wood from the historic mother clones. Ted's notes: scents of red fruits & briary spice. Flavors of cherry compote & raspberry preserves. Good acidity w/ fine, dusty tannins & soft, round finish.
2009 Old Vine Zinfandel
38.00
Seghesio old vine zinfandel perfectly embodies our familys goal of sharing uncommon ground as only the finest lots from our oldest vineyards are selected for this composite blend. These vineyards are rare treasures we have farmed over the course of our familys century as grape growers. Although old vine is often loosely interpreted in the wine industry, our benchmark is fifty years. The average age of the vines producing this wine nears 90 years
2009 Petite Sirah-Il Cinghiale
38.00
Petite sirah was first introduced in california in 1878, mistakenly as syrah. Growers recognized the error & soon began calling the newcomer petite sirah for its prized small berries & low yields of intense, tannic, flavorful fruit. Aged for 18 months, half in french & half in american oak barrels, this complex & concentrated wine is beautifully balanced & structured to age
2009 Omaggio

Omaggio, italian for homage, is a tribute to our grandparents edoardo & angela seghesio who wisely planted our familys first vineyard in america in 1895. first produced for our centennial in 1995, omaggio blends 40% sangiovese, planted by our first generation, w/ 60% cabernet sauvignon planted by the second. Omaggio pays homage to our familys tradition, passion & dedication to over a century of farming & winemaking.

2011 Arneis
22.00
Arneis originates from the hills of roero, northwest of alba in the piedmont region of italy from which edoardo seghesio emigrated in 1886. noted in italian records as far back as 1478, arneis’ production grew as it was often planted among rows of nebbiolo to lure hungry birds away from the more prized red grapes. Arneis is italian for “little rascal.” the variety is so named for the challenges it presents in the vineyard. For some time, we had the largest planting of arneis in the U.S., all of 26 vines. Today, we have 8 acres on our keyhole ranch, where the cool climate produces highly expressive arneis. Mineral & dusty nuances are enhanced w/ crisp & floral aromas. Complex & full-bodied, w/ notes of pear & dried apricot. Crisp acidity elevates fruit profile. Whole- cluster pressed, 100% stainless steel tank fermented to showcase crisp acidity & bright varietal fruit aromas.
