Inspired by the global craft beer revolution, I hope this list inspires YOU to travel and discover not only new beers and brewers, but also visit places and make new friends as well!
Morten Aastad: I am in part from Skagen, it will always be my hometown. That is why I am very proud of our brewery. The brewpub is more of a dinnerplace for the casual beer fan, and not really for beer geeks.
Skagensvej 30 (Sdr. Havnevej), Ålbæk, Region Nordjylland
Beer Store · 6 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: I lille Ålbæk omkring 20 km syd for Skagen ligger dette Godt Ølmærkede sted. Et imponerende antall belgiske øl til salg både i butikken og baren.
Morten Aastad: You might not get the brewpub or microbrewery bar/restaurant experience quite the way you'd expect here. More of a proper restaurant. but the beers are good and a the food a treat.
Morten Aastad: They recently refurbished the place, and it now looks a bit more pre-fab British pub, and less brewpub. Also seemed to have given up on the Beer Here beers. Still makes great beers though.
Borgergade 16 (Egholmsgade), Aalborg, Region Nordjylland
Pub · Kastetvej · 20 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: An astounding number of beers on tap from the british isles. Quite amazing selection, considering we're in Aalborg and not Copenhagen or London for that matter. Great 'hygge'.
Morten Aastad: A gorgeous little brewery in a very nice little town. Situated right on the Limfjord, most breweries can only dream of a better locality. The guys working here are ace. The Anker Porter is wonderful.
Morten Aastad: Great place run by local students who know about beer. The food is a bit more on the "lets save the World" side of things than the beers I suppose.
Borgergade 93 (Fredericiagade), København K, Region Hovedstaden
Pub · Indre By · 30 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: I really liked this place. Even over the sound of a very loud american woman, the bartenders were friendly and attentive, great beer selection and just, well, nice! I'd even go there for coffee!
Morten Aastad: When I finally got here, I had several miles of walking and lots of food and beers from all over Copenhagen sloshing around my head. Still really liked the place, but can't remember what beers I had!
Liquor Store · Vesterbro - Kongens Enghave · 7 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Lots and lots of good beers to buy, and should the burden be too heavy, you can actually sit down and drink one or two of them before you head on out into the streets of Copenhagen.
Beer Bar · Vesterbro - Kongens Enghave · 285 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: There are not enough hours in a day or brain cells in your head to get "through" this place in one visit. Great staff, real passion for craft brewing, heaps of taps and just a great place.
Stefansgade 35, KLD (at Husumgade), København, Region Hovedstaden
Beer Bar · Nørrebro · 123 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: I adore Mikkeller & Friends, and the fact it doubles as a bottleshop. The only drag is to have to schlepp all the bottles from this somewhat out of the way neighbourhood back to the city.
Beer Bar · Vesterbro - Kongens Enghave · 91 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: I really like Fermentoren, not least because it is near where I usually stay, and Mikkeller bar and Kihoskh. People working here don't mind having a conversation, time permitting, and beers are great.
Morten Aastad: I have been here lots of times, and I enjoy it each time. Last time was in September 2014, after they made the place look even better than before. Good beers, good food.
Morten Aastad: One of the more authentic experiences you can have just off 'Strøget'. A good selection, but a tiny place, so get ready to squeeze in for some real Danish 'hygge'!
Beer Garden · Gammel Strands · 27 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: A real Copenhagen institution, with a great bee-line into Amager Bryghus and other sources of damned fine Danish craft beer. Just don't leave your bike on the sidewalk in front! He he.
Lavendelstræde 15 (Mikkel Brygers Gade), København, Region Hovedstaden
Beer Bar · Indre By · 82 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Brand new craft beer pub in the absolute center of Copenhagen. Boasts to have the biggest selection in Europe with an impressive 61 taps (no repeats). More once I've been there.
Nordre Beddingsvej 35, Hundested, Region Hovedstaden
Brewery · 19 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: On the top-end of Sjælland. Some of my beer friends were here recently, so I thought I'd go up there, and I had a lovely time. Fine brewpub beer, good food, lovely harbour, great people.
Stortingsgata 20 (Roald Amundsens gate), Oslo, Oslo
Brewery · Sentrum · 84 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: They brew fine beers, also import and keep a very good beercellar. Good nosh as well. Bit "footbally" at times, but I suppose it balances we the beer geeks and the suits a bit. Now also at Nydalen.
Morten Aastad: Recently refurbished (looks the same) with the intent of going up against other bars focused on craft beer. I didn't see much of a change yet, still a good place, if you can afford it.
Morten Aastad: This is a fun cafe. Good selection of beer, I like the food and the formica interior with hints of diner. You might want to avoid the breastfeeding hours (you'll notice all the babystrollers ouside).
Morten Aastad: A nice rustic place, good backyard, very good selection of beers, good looking crowd at most times, but the big pluss is a big menu and kitchen that stays open really late. A few yards from Crowbar.
Morten Aastad: Crowbar opened in 2012 and has quickly become a popular destination for thirsty people in the lower end of Torggata. Decorwise not unlike Moeder Lambic in Brussels, it sports 20 ever changing taps.
Morten Aastad: I have been avoiding Dr. Jekyll's because the place gets "nightclubish" in the weekends, and I don't like explaining myself to bouncers half my age. However, it has become yet another beer nirvana!
Morten Aastad: A new place in a really old building. A good selection of beer, some surprises, even sake here. Great space, lots of room in the two courtyards. Try Gaasa IPA if it isn't sold out! Great place.
Morten Aastad: Great selection of beers, really good interior, people who know and love beer. In 2013 they got around to brewing their own beer, after initially outsourcing it elsewhere. Pricey, in relative terms.
Rosenkrantz' gate 7 (Kristian IVs gate), Oslo, Oslo
Scandinavian Restaurant · Sentrum · 54 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: This place has built a great following of craft beer fans in the last couple of years, and I really ought to go here more often. Lovely place.
Morten Aastad: Aker Brygge has been extensively rebuilt, and this place just opened up on the corner of the first "street". Yet another gastropub in the Amundsen family, it has a middle of the road beer selection.
Morten Aastad: A recent discovery for me, this is a nice pub with a good selection of beers. There's good food and a snug atmosphere. Chairs and interior is like an anglican church from a Hammer movie. Very cool.
Morten Aastad: Opened in August 2013. This is Amundsen spreading its beer wings across town in Nydalen. With brewers from both Amundsen and Schouskjelleren they seem to be a runaway success. A reason to go up north!
Morten Aastad: A grand old place east in central Oslo. Was a run down dive, now it's a diamond surrounded by browncoal. Lovely interiour, great, I mean, great selection of beers from all over. Fine food as well.
Morten Aastad: From 1989, Scandinavias oldest brewpub. They make a standard set of beers, but have lately added IPA, new stouts and dubbel. Good looking place, good natured people and a tramstop on the doorstep!
Morten Aastad: RG opened in Feb. 2015 when the refurbished Østbanehallen (old train-station) re-opened. Despite "burning tables" it is all quite familiar, RG is the youngest member of the Amundsen family. Expensive.
Trondheimsveien 2 (Thorvald Meryers Gate), Oslo, Oslo
Brewery · Grünerløkka øst · 57 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: An absolute favorite of mine. This place has it all. They brew their own beers, 5-6 on tap all the time, they change all the time, they have lots of great imports on tap and bottle. Looks fantastic!
Morten Aastad: This is a fun place. In the old bath on Torggata, next to Rockefeller (same building). Old games, and "pimped out" with old flipper glass screens. A very good collection of beers on tap and bottle.
Morten Aastad: Vinmonopolets flagship store in Oslo moved "across" the street to Aker Brygge in January 2015. They now sport cooled rooms for their relatively large beer selection.
Döbelnsgatan 25 (Tegnérgatan), Stockholm, Storstockholm
Bar · Norra Adolf Fredrik · 56 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Had a great time here back in April and August 2014. Its in the same street I stay when I'm in Stockholm, so extremely likely to frequent Mikkeller Stockholm again and again. Great people and beer.
Morten Aastad: I now go here every time I'm in town. A perfect addition to the craft beer revolution in Stockholm. I just wish they'd build one in Oslo. Great staff!
Tegnérgatan 2 C (at Tulegatan), Stockholm, Storstockholm
Gastropub · Norrmalm · 45 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: You have to go to this pub. It is really great for anyone on a beer safari, with a great selection. Good food and the pub itself looks really nice!
Morten Aastad: A perfect destination for any beer safari. Great room, huge selection of bottled beers from all over the World, many of them aged, as well as a constantly updated long row of taps. Friendly staff!
Repslagargatan 6 (Sankt Paulsgatan), Stockholm, Storstockholm
Pub · Mariatorget · 93 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Perfect beer bar. Loads of beers, good room, nice people, great part of Stockholm. Bought my first dogfish head here! That doesn't mean they always have that btw.
Morten Aastad: A great place to drink the black stuff (porters and stouts). Super building and the beer they make at the brewpub (elsewhere) is really good.
Folkungagatan 105 (at Renstiernas gata), Stockholm, Storstockholm
Pub · Södermalm · 11 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Great selection of beers. Had my first sixpoint here. Their idea of burger might not be my idea, but apart from that I enjoyed it imensly here.
Morten Aastad: What has happened to Sweden? Great beer selection, everywhere! Mosebacke is a lovely place and the beerkiosk has an amazing number of craftbeers. Go there or be square!
Katarina Bangata 75 (Ljusterögatan), Stockholm, Storstockholm
Restaurant · Södra Sofia · 36 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Finally got around to this place in August 2014. I took the little ferry from Nya Carnegiebryggeriet across the canal and then walked up. Nice area. Fun place, quite young crowd, fine beer selection.
Ljusslingan 15 (Lumaparken), Stockholm, Storstockholm
Brewery · Södra Hammarby · 37 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Found my way here in August 2014. Nice place, love sitting outside, having some of their beers and looking at the canal and the geese. Good people here, fine beer, had a great time. I'll come back.
Morten Aastad: A lovely bar, small, so be warned you might have to "fight" your way to the bar. The beer speaks for itself, added bonus, amazing pizza!
Andra Långgatan 13 (Nordhemsgatan), Göteborg, Västra Götalands län
Pub · 15 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Lots of good Swedish craft beers, good people and a good looking bar. They keep up with whats what in Swedish brewing, so you’re always sure to find something new and fresh here.
Mikovcova 605/4 (Legerova), Praha, Hlavní město Praha
Restaurant · Praha 2 · 130 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: A last minute addition, thanks to a hint from an Untappd friend who works at an Oslo beer bar. Not many taps, but they have Czech craft beers, so it was worth a trip.
Morten Aastad: Not really beer I'm very fond of, however, a good place to pick up some beer related souvenirs, beer mugs and metal signs, among other, and enthusiastic young people behind the bar.
Strahovské nádvoří 301/10, Praha, Hlavní město Praha
Restaurant · Hradčany · 334 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: A wonderful place. They make the best beer I had in all of Prague, and are the only ones who seem to know what an IPA should taste like around here. Heavenly food as well. Great goulash in bread!
Czech Restaurant · Malá Strana · 97 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: I read about this place in 'A piss-heads pub guide to Prague'. A not well written book I ordered just before leaving for Prague. This place more than made up for the 10£'s. Goulash in bread is great!
Morten Aastad: A pretty down to earth kind of place. Their own beers are an odd collection of fruit flavored beers, however, I had a coffee flavored beer which was top notch!
Belgian Restaurant · Staré Město · 85 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: A nice break from all the Czech beers, and a nice looking place. But not really a place to go for those of us into beer, it's a bit too up-marked and about the food.
Morten Aastad: My kind of beer hangout. Lots of Czech microbrews, and a backyard as well. The girls who work here know the beer they sell, so I was well pleased.
Morten Aastad: Never been to a place quite like this, it's like a restaurant inside a bottle shop, or the other way 'round. I had something I was dying to dry in Prague, a really great goulash, and great beers.
Kaasmarkt 7-9 Rue du Marché aux Fromages, Brussel, Brussel-Hoofdstad
Beer Bar · Brussel · 53 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Skip this little delirium and the scoffing attitude (Don't know what you want right away? Then you're in for an annoyed look and rolling eyes) and head for the main Delirium and the Hoppy Loft.
Getrouwheidsgang 4A Impasse de la Fidélité, Brussel, Brussel-Hoofdstad
Beer Bar · Brussel · 752 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Leave all the tweens down in the basement to their own devices, and get up to the Hoppy Loft. The guys working here are beer personified, and there are hundreds of beers from all over the World!
Getrouwheidsgang 4A Impasse de la Fidélite, Brussel, Brussel-Hoofdstad
Beer Bar · Brussel · 9 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: Forget about the downstairs and the basement. The Hoppy Loft is a great place to get amazing craft beers, and the guys working here are real beer geeks and not apron clad Belgian waiters.
113 Bayham St (at Greenland St), London, Greater London
Beer Bar · Camden Town · 148 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: My very first BrewDog, and a wonderful experience. Great beer geeks behind the bar, wonderful pizza, great crowd, they made me feel so at home, I didn't want to leave.
Morten Aastad: A real little gem of a pub. There's not a lot of room inside this little "gate house" but there's loads of room for some amazing beers. Don't miss out on this, it's great!
Beer Bar · Holborn and Covent Garden · 102 tips and reviews
Morten Aastad: A part of London I wasn't well traveled in, but when I got there I had the greatest time. The people working here are really champion and the tap selection near mind-blowing!
Morten Aastad: Read a lot of good things about this place, oddly enough also something about not getting your camera out, but anyhow, beer in a market is the ticket.
Morten Aastad: There's still two Nordic countries missing on my "been to" list, namely Norway's brothers and sisters over on the Faroese Islands and Iceland. I guess I have to have a lay-over in Reykjavik?
Morten Aastad: Another great BrewDog experience. They really know how to do these places. I love the interior, the choice for beer, the food, and they always get really good staff! Love you Cardiff BrewDog!
Morten Aastad: After leaving Cardiff too soon in 2013 I was thrilled to get this experience in April 2015. Fantastic staff, great beers, I wish I could have stayed a lot longer. A Welsh "BrewDog" bar!
Morten Aastad: Great little liquor store/pub with only small craftbrewers, lots and lots of Welsh stuff, I wish there was more time, but I had a great, all be it brief experience here. Great staff!
Morten Aastad: A really good place for beer, and a good start or end if you want to get the Taphouse, BrewDog and Zero Degrees experience as well. Local stuff, cask, tap, it's all good.
Morten Aastad: I enjoyed it here. I didn't stay long as I had just bought a backpack full of beers at the Discount Supermarket. But the beer was very nice.
