Beet Bloody Mary + fries are fabulous during the day. House cocktails are delicious; get the Old Pal Spencer if you like whisky.

Though the burgers and fried sausages are excellent at this upscale Irish pub, Penrose carries rare and unknown whiskeys, and turns them into savory cocktails.

Restaurant is in the back. Great cocktails and the food was pretty good as well. Semi awkward seating.

Dirty pickle martini. Great take on the standard martini, has a subtle kick.

The cocktails are quite good. The adult root beer is the way to go, especially with rum!

Great atmosphere. Live music Sunday's 8pm. Meals don't come with fries so we shared a large between 2.

The Mac n cheese I thought had too many scallions. The tequila drink was too fruity but the gin drink was just right. My bf liked the pickle martini too.

Fun atmosphere. Almost makes it feel casual but most are dressed nicely (& rather easy on the eyes!) Decent drink selection. But often loud, and beers range $7-9. Arrive early.

If you want a real pickle martini - go to Bua on the LES. Although the vibe is cool here, the drinks are really small (unlike their other locations) and the bartenders have a bit of an attitude.

Great, knowledgeable bartenders (Michael took great care of us), but the crowd is awful. Go on a quiet weeknight and order the fried chicken.

One of my favorite neighborhood bars. Good atmosphere, but usually busy. The bartenders are friendly and make a delicious cocktail.

A downtown bar on the UES. Head all the way to the back for a seat and order the St. Anne's.

The Penrose is fine for a casual brunch. Not somewhere I would hang out for more than a bite and a drink or two...the crowd is young and sort of douchey.

It's fun bc there's nothing else like it on the UES but be prepared for a 23 year old fratty/preppy crowd. Just have another beer.
