How We Do Laundry
For starters we have introduced Continental's commercial E-Series High-Performance front load washers & Express Dryers to Savannah. Designed to reduce gas, water & electricity usage & deliver a super-speed extract, our washers quietly & gently reach extract speeds of 354 G-Force, roughly 3 times greater than conventional commercial washers. The result is your clothes emerge from our washers virtually dry reducing finish dry time & your time spent doing laundry!

How It Works
Drop It Off:
Drop off your laundry any time during our business hours, (6AM - 11PM) & we will weigh your order & begin processing it immediately. Our normal turnaround is usually 48 hours or less, but we are happy to rush your order same day* if needed, provided you drop your wash load off before 11AM (*Rush Charges Apply). Also, all orders are subject to a 10LB minimum & no maximum weight!
Bundle Wrapped & Handled With Care:
We take great pride in our care of your laundry & when finished we will neatly fold & wrap it in our famous all natural kraft paper, into secure bundles complete w/ your personalized name label, individual order details & inspection certification.
No Size Limits:
No Job is too big! Bring us your comforters (for example: kingsize, down-filled comforters are no trouble for our large machines) blankets, tablecloths, sleeping bags & bed spreads, etc. all the items that make your washer at home tremble in fear we will happily wash, dry & fold them for you, no problem.

Our Laundry Room vs. Yours‎
If you do a random search online for cost calculators to determine the costs to do laundry at home vs. at a laundromat you will come up w/ several confusing & conflicting calculations that really miss the big hidden costs of doing laundry at home.
Let Us Explain
First, its important to establish an apples to apples comparison, Do you have a Top-Loader at home or a front-loader? If you answered top-loader, stop here & get on down to our store, a Top-loader uses 63% more energy than a front-loader & thats even before we compare the efficiency of our commercial washers & dryers to consumer home models.

Do the Math
Water heating Cost: 90% of the energy used by washing clothes is just to heat the water! Now this is important, your water heater is on all day & night 7 days a week. People often isolate the water heating costs just to calculate the cost of one load of laundry. WRONG, you may wash your laundry once a week at home but you heated water for six extra days!
What was the Actual Cost to heat water for the days you didn't do your laundry?............Answer: Big Bucks!!!

Special Note: You just can't get your water as hot as ours. Our 98.6% Energy Efficient commercial Natural Gas Condensing Water Heating system & hot water storage tanks keeps our water at a constant 140 degrees, you just can't get water that hot at home & you wouldn't want to pay for it if you could!
We All Love Hot Water!
We can produce a maximum Hourly BTU output of 730,554 BTUs, which can heat over 1000 gallons of water per hour to 140 degrees. Washing your clothes at home in hot water annually is the equivalent of leaving the refrigerator door open for 24 hours a day for a year. (Fridge open 24/7:143 watts X 14.4 extra hours per day X 365 days/yr. = 752 kWh.)
Top-Loading Washers: Top-loaders use ridiculous amounts of water & energy & are by far what most folks have at home. You might have thought you saved a bundle purchasing a top-loader over a HE front-loader, but trust us, you are washing money down the drain each time you use it. At the Savannah Soap Co. we don't have a single top-loader in our washer floor plan & never will, compare us to any competitor & count how many top-loaders they have.
Drying Water-Soaked Clothes. There is just no comparison to our commercial high-speed extracting washers which spin at a mind-blowing 354-G Force. At best, a home retail HE front-loader could only achieve about 25% of our extraction speed, meaning that your clothes are going into your home dryer, 75% wetter than they would if you were using our washers (add another 7% of water weight to that if using a top-loader).
Dryer Costs: A typical dryer at home consumes 12% of electricity used in a home per year. At a sample rate of $0.15/kWh & 9 loads a week (which barely would cover a typical family of three) you're spending $232.00 per year just to dry your clothes, not to mention the typical drying time for a home dryer is 45 minutes.
Time Cost:
45 Minute dry cycle X 9 Loads per week X 52 weeks per year = 351 HOURS
(Talk about Lost Weekends, sheesh!!!)
“How energy efficient is my washer?”
Answer:
Again, if you have a top-loader at home & your neighbor has a HE front loader, you are paying more than twice as much to do your laundry than if you had a front-loader. However, even w/ a front-loader you are paying far more than if you were doing your laundry w/ us!
Energy Star Washers
The EPA awards an Energy Star designation to washers for those machines that exceed average efficiency ratings. We proudly & exclusively feature Continental-Girbau Washers at our store which carry the Energy Star rating. (It's important to note that to date only 20LB commercial washers have been sampled by the EPA for commercial washers yet all of our washers are identical in their energy saving capabilities.)

To be truthful, we didn't originally set out to create a focus on natural & organic baby products, then came news of the pending arrival of our son Nicholas. Quick, what's safe for our baby? Hurry, scan the internet, search for every book tucked in every obscure corner at the library, seek out the advice of Indian men high atop Arizona Mesas & shamans in the Amazon on what plant mixtures we need to prepare & which amulets we need to wear & incantations we should be reciting! So began our odyssey to research the contents of every product we could & evaluate its potential use for our baby.
Phew, that was exhausting, but what wonderful products we discovered along the way. Hence, we decided that we needed to share our findings w/ our customers so they too could enjoy the natural goodness of our collection of products.

Laundry as it should be!‎
When we set out to create our store, we wanted to create an environment that was comfortable, clean & exciting & was as different as it could be from traditional coin laundries. We looked hard at the competition visiting laundromats throughout the country, often needing to put on a Hazmat suit before entering many of them to protect us from the dirty conditions. We found old & broken machines, drab environments, uncomfortable seating & uncaring attendants,"My gosh" we thought, "are clothes actually more dirty after being washed in these places?"
After those visits, our mission was clear, we wanted to create the "anti-laundromat experience," & so The Savannah Soap Co. was born.
We thought of the charm of turn-of-the century small town general stores, the richness, quality & attention to detail we had experienced in great old-world european boutiques in Paris, London & Madrid, the natural freshness of products found at genuine farmers markets in field along an old country road or town square. We think you will be very happy w/ what we came up with!
Vintage and High-Tech
We think there is not a better looking washer & dryer than those from Continental-Girbau. Their sleek design w/ polished stainless steel cabinets & jet black trim remind us of perfectly tuned formula one race cars speeding down the track. But we also love the wonderful look of great classic design & the richness of great building materials. Well we combined them both, against a backdrop of our state-of-the-art, high tech, shiny washers & dryers you can relax in authentic antique oversized oak train benches rescued from the original Union Station in Savannah (demolished in 1963) & the Union Station in Chicago. Walk on white porcelain mosaic floors surrounded by classic subway wall tile that will remind you of those wonderful old shop floors & walls from the 1920's. Our counter tops are white carrara marble, yep, the same thing Michelangelo carved & was used in every grand shop in old Europe & early America.
Throughout the store you will find pieces from our collection of great antique laundry & general store finds. Is that a real nickel plated antique 1915 National Cash Register? Yep, & it works perfectly, hear the cha-ching for real! Is that a real 1907 wall mounted oak & brass Western Electric telephone? Right again, & it is in perfect original working order & has never been restored, were happy to give it a crank so you can hear it ring! Is that a real antique 1922 No. 344 general store scale from the Dayton Scale Company? Yes it is, complete w/ original milk glass base & polished brass trim, & it works as good as the day it was made!
Wow, is that a real Dr. Pepper wall clock from the early 1960's? It sure is, & it keeps perfect time for us in the store every day. Is that an entire ceiling made of antique washboards? Yes it is! Its our version of a pressed tin ceiling!
We could on & on, but we can't tell you about all of the cool things we have in the store so you are going to have to come in & see them for yourself! Oh, & don't forget to bring your laundry too!
The Amazing T-Bar
We so love the Southern Tradition of serving Iced Tea year-round, that we got to thinking about how we could make it even better. We sampled teas from around the world to use in our unique brews of classic Sweet Tea & Unsweetened tea. We wanted to source only premium natural teas & combine them w/ innovative flavors of fresh fruits, like passion fruit, raspberry, blueberry & mango, while still letting the rich flavor of fine tea come through. We came up w/ wonderful recipes for teas that are clean & crisp tasting w/ subtle flavors while avoiding anything being too strongly flavored or overly perfumed.
We brew two unique Sweet tea combinations & two unique Unsweetened teas each day to offer you a refreshing, natural & great tasting iced glass of pure heaven. Oh, & the refills are free & unlimited so come in thirsty!
Our Natural and Organic Soaps Boutique‎
Well, you say you haven't been able to find great natural & organic soap alternatives to the conventional ones you've been buying? "We couldn't find them either, so we built our own soap boutique." Bulletin! We have them here! We found some terrific carpenters & shared w/ them our dream of building an in-store boutique that was reminiscent of what you might expect to find in a classic shop in an old world european setting that would provide the right backdrop for our wonderful collection of natural & organic soaps, well, they surpassed our expectations w/ what they built for us. Just wait until you see it!

In addition to our high-efficiency Continental-Girbau E-Series washers & Express Dryers we have strived to create a green environment in our store using green materials, systems & products.
Our Store's Green Environment: Green Lighting
Lighting systems are responsible for 35 percent of the electricity costs in typical commercial buildings, lighting consumes a lot of electricity in our laundry, where a bright, clean & safe environment is critical. We use Energy-efficient T-8 fluorescent lamps & LED lamps to increase our energy savings & protect the environment. A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor device which converts electricity into light. LED lamps have many advantages over traditional lighting methods, these include: Low energy consumption, long service life - LED bulbs can last up to 50,000 hrs., No infrared or ultraviolet radiation, environmentally conscious LED's contain no mercury, LED's do not generate heat unlike incandescent bulbs.
Our Store's Green Environment: Green Water Heating
With our aim to provide the most efficient operations we've installed a Hamilton Engineering EVO Condensing water heater system. In the combustion process of conventional water heaters as much as 11% of heat is lost through latent heat or steam. An EVO condensing system forces all of the heat generated, both wet heat & dry heat, to pass over a heat exchanger where the coolest water enters the heating system. At this point, the flue gasses condense, releasing trapped heat that is then absorbed into the water through the heat exchanger. The water heating system custom designed for us is rated 99.8% efficient & is expected to dramatically reduce our natural gas consumption. Green hot water, very cool.
Our Store's Green Environment: Green Cups, Lids & Straws
You can't serve our all natural iced teas in anything not environmentally smart! We use recycled content cold cups, lids & drinking straws from Eco-Products line of cold cup products. Why we like them:
First to market w/ a full line of 50% post consumer content cold cups
Products from recycled content take less energy to make than conventional products
Helps create demand for recycled materials made from 50% recycled bottles
Green Seating
Right down to the seating we have installed for our customers, we chose Loll Designs benches made from 100% recycled materials. (Actually made from milk jugs!)
All Loll outdoor furniture is made from 100% recycled HDPE. What is that? It is high density polyethylene, a plastic resin used in products & packaging such as milk jugs, detergent bottles, margarine tubs, & garbage containers.
Post consumer HDPE is a material or finished product that has served its intended use & has been diverted or recovered from waste destined for disposal, having completed its life as a consumer item. For every pound of weight in a Loll chair there are an estimated 8 recycled milk jugs being used, saving natural resources & reducing land-fill waste.
