平沼亮三(1879-1959)：元東京六大学野球連盟会長、元横浜市長。1955年（昭和30年）に行われた第10回国民体育大会秋季大会開会式（神奈川国体）では76歳にして炬火の最終ランナーを務めたが、その勇姿を見た昭和天皇が「松の火をかざして走る老人（おひびと）のををしき姿見まもりにけり」と詠んだ。その国体開会式会場となった三ツ沢公園内に銅像「平沼さんの像」が建立された。

スポーツの父と呼ばれた平沼亮三さんが第10回国体でサプライズの聖火アンカーとして走って56段を駆け上がった時の像、当時77歳。スポーツ関係者としては初の文化功労賞受賞者。
