A must-see when visiting Seoul. Korean traditional art and international modern + contemporaryart collections. Worth getting tickets for museums and the current special exhibition with audio guide.
Admission 10000. Audio guide 2000. Kinda need the audio guide b/c they don't put any txt details next to the pieces like most western museums. Love museum 2 which is modern to post mod etc
Dedicate at least one afternoon to check out the museum, because it has 3 sections. Get the audio tour as well, since they don't have any description of the art there. Closed on Mondays.
Contemporaryart collect is excellent for Korea, but the well curated Korean art wing is the best. The top two floors of ceramics are especially amazing - the display treats each price as sculpture
Impressive collections! Museum closes at 6pm, save at least 2 hours if you want to check out everything. The area has many nice restaurant and vibrant nightlife in the evening.
I loved and enjoyed every bit of this museum. The architecture, the size, the digital guide, the flow, and, of course, the art collection. It's easy to lose track of time here. GET THE DIGITAL GUIDE.
Amazing architecture and collection! Audio guide is well done. Fragments start as soon as you're near an object. Current (Jan 2014) price is W13,000, audio guide is still W2,000
A Samsung funded Museum with cool architecture. The two main permanent exhibitions are focusing on ancient Korean art and modern international contemporaryart.
Immerse yourself in both Korean and international art at an architectural marvel, then try a modern bistro and sample some artfully traditional family recipes. Read more
The modern art museum is amazing and well put together. Also liked the traditional wing, with spikes of modern art in between. Really good vibe and energy.
Breathtaking museum run by the Samsung foundation of culture that houses both traditional Korean art and contemporary art. 60-16 Itaewon-ro 55-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
The Audio Guide Experience is amazing. It utilizes the NFC technology to automatically play the guide for individual pieces you are looking at. You can also see the bottom or rear of the artworks.
The Samsung audio guides (available in different languages) work smooth and are very clear. They auto detect which art piece you're at and start reading to you a detailed description of it
Don’t trust the staff. There are more exhibitions, more levels and really interesting contemporary stuff, but most times they don’t point you in the right direction.
The permanent Korean traditional art collection isn't fun but the international one and the current "memories of the future" exhibit is def worth it :) all for just 12,000won!
Small but incredible collection of old Korean art pieces, literally national treasure. Wonder how they ended up in private hands. Also decent contemporaryexhibits, western & Korean.
Great collection of contemporaryart including pieces from Yves Klein, Andy Warhol, and Mark Rothko. The digital guides are an additional 2000w, look stupid, but are worth the money!
A must visit. It has 3 galleries, built by 3 different architects. Almost like 3 museums. Choose one according to your interests or if u have time, visit all three!
