Fishball noodles ($6 large bowl). Cai Ji #01-59 serves generous toppings. Fishballs, meatballs, small prawn, fried wantans, slices of pork, fishcake, & mushroom, minced pork, fried sole fish. Yum!

Fried carrot cake: Ate retro-style chai tow kway @ Le Yi Shi #01-38. D old lady fries ea plate slowly; b prepared 2 wait a bit. It's served in chunky bits, with a smattering of untidy fried eggs

Popiah. Clean-tasting popiahs from ABC Popiah #01-34. Without lard cooked into their turnip stuffing, there's a missing aroma compared to Ping Ji at Berseh FC (Jln Besar)

Hainanese chicken rice. Honest meal from Ding Feng Hainanese Chicken Rice & Noodles 顶峰海南鸡饭•面 #01-53. While not a juicy as Tian Tian at Maxwell FC, meat was plump. Chilli sauce was punchy

Vegetarian options limited due to small size: gado-gado, fried carrot cake, local desserts, popiah (fresh spring roll), mi chiam kueh (local pancake). U can find Indian prata & dosai @ nearby kopitiam

Peanut pancake (min jiang kueh). Yi Kou Fu #01-58 makes them the traditional small size. However, her batter tends to be dry. So better to pair with some beverage

Lor Mee. Ate, went home & still remembered what’s special from Zhi Xiang Special Lor Mee #01-49: the crispy rice noodle bits. Otherwise ingredients are very basic

A sad state of our local food scene. Famous 93 Wu Xiang Xia Bing #01-33 serves sub-par Chinese sausages. It's purely a roll of starch w something in middle dat doesn't even taste of pork @ all!

Kaya butter toast ($3.60). Set 1 from 99 Kopi Roti #1-41 is served with only 1 piece of toast. Stingy with kaya. Kopi was diluted despite ordering “di lok” (undiluted)

Epok epok. Ramlah Kitchen #01-48 sells these in d morning. Curry puffs were tasty, but sardines puff filling was more onions than sardines. 60-cents each

I recommend zhi Xiang special lor mee #01-49 Very light n tasty. Ngoh Hiang n fish cake is flavorful. Only complaint is that it is very small portion.

The carrot cake at Le Yi Shi (#01-38) is great. The poor aunty that fries it has her elbow permanently bent from all the work she's done frying it...
