If you are going to Basel city centre, definitely take BUS #50. Cabs are expensive. Take tickets from BVB(green box) ticket machines. Make sure you have Swiss francs in coins or a Maestro debit card.
When your flight's gate is open, try not to wait in line behind 80 other people. You're not gonna fly any faster, you won't loose your seat and you won't look like a moron. Try it.
Its possible to use both exits France and Switzerland to reach the same baggage claim area. No need to wait on the Swiss side, jump the que using the French boarder control.
Once you have taken the bus to the station trams will take you anywhere within about 10th mins. Ask your hotel front desk for a Mobility Pass... Free public transport.
Another tip said they don't speak English... that has changed. All staff I spoke with could speak English as well. Friendly staff and nice small airport
Small but comfortable and interesting airport. Has 3 exits, you can go france, germany or swiss from here. Also you can find French and Swiss products here, for an ex. there is Paul Brasserie in it.
Separate Swiss (the larger) & French sectors though you can pass freely albeit potentially subject to customs controls. Connected to Basel by a Swiss road and Bus 50 so you don’t need to enter France
You can be prepared as much as you can for security control (even when liquids are correctly put and your laptop is already outside) to be very fast, they'll always find something to blame you
great airport especially if you rent a car, it is very convenient for the France exit door. The car park for rental cars is just at the exit from the car rental desks.
Catch flights to rest of Europe. Great connections from KLM and easyjet. Try weekend breaks with direct flights to Amsterdam, Prague, Lisbon and many more!
Postbox operated by the airport for thin letters and cards - for either the Swiss or French Posts - in the walkway towards gate 30 etc before border control. Emptied just twice a week and posted.
You can cross the border between F and CH at the landside, even w/out ticket, just with a passport or id card. The cross-over is at Departure level (level 3) and is open from 4am until approx. 00.30am
What a mess at passport control inside departure. If you go out of Schengen area, plan extra hour to get through with only 3 officers doing their best. Probably easily 300+ people waiting at 9:30am
Small but very convenient airport. Many connections for this small terminal and avoids to travel to Zürich with luggage for those living in the 3 countries region.
After picking up your bag, make sure you use the correct exit from the baggage hall - France on the left, Switzerland on the right. Otherwise, you'll find yourself in the wrong country.
Be at the airport at least 90 minutes in advance.Upon exit, lines at check in counter, security & immigration could take up to 45 minutes in total. On entry, immigration lines r unorganized & a turnoff.
Interesting, the airport exits into both France and Switzerland. No wonder when I checked in, I was greeted with "welcome to France" message. And I thought I took the wrong flight :/
There are two sorts of ticket machines. The BVB one ( green) can be picky with international cards. The SBB one (grey red blue) offers more options and is better with cards.
