What Makes Westchester Yoga Arts Ryt200 Training Unique?
Yoga, asana (the physical movements) was created as a vehicle to reach stillness of mind, to be able to observe emotions instead of being controlled by them. All of this IS yoga! The mind-body-spirit connection is an integral part of this yoga certification. We use advanced teaching methodology and proprietary tools, so that our students not only receive the information but retain it. WYA's training also emphasizes physiology in the first module, real concrete teaching practice in the second module and the business of yoga in the third.
Study of Ancient Texts
Including the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Bhakti Sutras, Bagavad Gita, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
How to Teach
Unique proprietary teaching tips and instructional tools take teacher from being good to being great.
Hands On Teaching Experience
Student trainees start teaching as of the very first class. Each student develops their own class plan. By the time the end of the program arrives, each trainee has already taught and refined their class. Walk out as a confident graduate, ready to teach.
Business of Yoga
Entrepreneurs and independent teachers alike will benefit from a complete training program from studio management to fiscal responsibilities. Start fulfilling the class and workshop requirements before the course begins!
A Strong Physiology Program
Taught in association with the chakras and asanas. We cover the systems of the body and their direct application to the practice of yoga.
Spiritual and Personal Growth.
The spiritual is very different from the philosophical. The spiritual aspect of yoga is life-changing. It can bring greater awareness and personal freedom. Often the hardest part of the course, it can also be the most rewarding. Learn to apply what you learn on the mat to all aspects of your class. Allison Schleck
Fascinated by the intricate relationship between the mind and body, Allison has studied and taught yoga as well as other mind-body work for several years. She began as a gymnast at the age of 5 and in her teens dived into the world of martial arts. Following her passion of language, Allison moved to Costa Rica where she worked for the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress, became fluent in Spanish, wrote content for several websites and received her 3rd degree black belt. The journey had just begun when she stepped into her first yoga teacher training in NYC at Sonic Yoga and knew that her heart aligned with the principles of yoga. Years later equipped with a dedicated yoga and meditation practice, Allison found her home at Yoga Culture in Danbury, CT. Here she was able to refine her skills as a yoga teacher focusing on using the nuances of language to instruct students clearly and purposefully. Allison continues to study yoga and anatomy with Jenny Schuck, Jason Crandell, Carrie Owerko and Jason Brown. Allison's teachings are a reflection of what she learns practicing daily on her mat coupled with the yoga she experiences all around her in life. In addition to teaching and managing Yoga Culture, Allison contributes as a writer regularly to Yoga International and has released an MP3 Yoga Nidra Meditations to Relax and Move Forward. Allison is excited to bring her knowledge and skills to the students of Westchester Yoga Arts, help guide innovative and curious yoga teachers and students to dive in deeper into their studies and acquire skills that will improve their teaching and overall fascination with the art of teaching yoga.

Class Descriptions
Virtual Vinyasa/core
This is a fast moving class, suitable for those who are looking for more of a challenge. As the class moves faster there are less instructions, more attention to moving with the breath, one movement per breath. There are a few astanga inspired series, followed by a creative standing sequence where one pose gives the cue for the next, like a choreography. There are ample chatterangas and modified chatterangas (yoga speak for plank then lowering down to the floor bending the elbows) with attention on toning the abs. The last quarter of the class we hold the poses longer, including the backbends, hip openers, twists, forward bends and optional inversions before deep relaxation and meditation.
Virtual Gentle Yoga
This is our block buster gentle yoga class but when it's virtual you have all the space you need and can practice from your own home. Be sure to have pillows to sit on, blankets and towels for your knees or head, if you do not have blocks use a chair, or I use a large can of tomatoes or an amazon delivery box. This class is suitable for beginners, seniors, for those needing to stretch and de-stress.
Virtual Yin Yoga Class
Yin yoga, is a form of yoga where the poses are held for 2 minutes or more.. it allows for deep physical and emotional release, if the feedback of our students is accurate. This class is being added because it is like meditation for the whole practice. If you are taking this from home, have a block or a box of tissues or an empty (or filled) tub of wipes... get pillows and cushions to be able to support the body while holding these poses for long extended periods of time. This class was added during the time of COVID19 in New York and worldwide. We all need a little more yin in our lives right now.
Free Virtual Vinyasa and Vino
Joining up Wendy's love of Wine and Vinyasa... join her for this first iteration of Vinyasa and Vino.
Virtual Zumba
Come jam with us, stay connected, stay fit and zumba party with us!!
Virtual Open Level
A yoga class that is open level for all levels with sun salutations, standing flow and stretches at the end before deep relaxation.
Virtual Yoga for a Healthy Back
Build the muscles needed to strengthen and support the back, in a safe but sweaty manner!
Free Monday Mudra Morning Meditation
Mudras are sometimes called hand yoga. Mudras are hand positions that put pressure on points, channels that run through the body, called nadis in ayurveda. They can help facilitate meditation, calm and overall health.
New Rochelle Yoga
New Rochelle Yoga
At Westchester Yoga Arts we want yoga to be accessible. Far too many people on the quest to lose weight and/or to get back in shape are intimidated when they walk into a yoga class at a gym or elsewhere. Our Yoga classes in New Rochelle were created to resolve this conflict so that more people can discover the incredible benefits of yoga and feel good about themselves too.
Our Yoga Classes
If you are starting out, the best classes to start off with are Yoga 4 Everybody (Tues 9.30a), Candlelight Yoga 8p Fridays Gentle Yoga (Saturdays 11a) beware the Tuesday and Thursday "Gentle Yoga with a Twist" is NOT a true gentle class. We now offer Ashtanga Inspired Yoga which has less instruction, a cardio intense class the idea of less instruction is to create a moving meditation out of the class. Power Yoga classes invite the students to play with arm balances, sweat and increase cardio and muscular strength. Core Abs classes focus on toning the abs. Rise and Shine Yoga classes are a mix of both!!
Yoga 4 Every Body
At Westchester Yoga Arts we want yoga to be accessible. Far too many people on the quest to lose weight and/or to get back in shape are intimidated when they walk into a yoga class at a gym or elsewhere. This class was created to resolve this conflict so that more people can discover the incredible benefits of yoga and feel good about themselves too.
Core Power Yoga
A Vinyasa class, focusing on building cardio and muscular strength. This sweat-inducing practice also focuses on flexibility. Move in and out, deeper into the poses with the rhythm of the breath. End in a blissful deep relaxation.
Vinyasa Level 1
Starting yoga? This is a great place to start the class combines movement with stillness. The teacher is open to questions, makes abundant use of props and makes the class fun. Learn a modified version of the Sun Salutations, standing poses then the rest of the class is for the most part on the floor for hip openers, twists and forward bends.
Astanga-Inspired Yoga
We have two astanga inspired classes. Friday morning is closest to a traditional astanga class with the exception that there is instruction and modifications are offered as needed. We also have a growing Kettle Bell/ Astanga class to build muscle mass safely.
Gentle Yoga
A gentler, slower-paced practice for people of all sizes, ages and fitness levels. Have you heard somewhere that even people in hospitals do yoga? This is true! If they can, so can YOU! Nancy Dunngallin
Nancy began her yoga journey in 2008 after winning a three month unlimited membership to this yoga studio (before it moved to New Rochelle) in a neighborhood raffle. In true Nancy fashion, she attended class every day, some times twice a day, for the entire three months. She was hooked on the killer abs she found and signed up for an annual membership. She continued to practice 3-5 days a week creating a strong toned body, and more importantly a strong mind. The consistent yoga practice brought insight and with it the courage to make a drastic change in her life in order to find happiness. The raffle was an offering from the universe to allow for this change. Today, Nancy shares her love and passion for yoga with her students by teaching what she likes to call a vigorous vinyasa class that is challenging yet attainable with an emphasis on fun. She encourages her students to find the radiant possibilities in life on and off their mats and challenges them to seek their own unique happiness always.

Yoga Classes
We offer a wide variety of yoga classes at Westchester Yoga Arts. The majority of the classes are Vinyasa style. Vinyasa means "flow". During class students move, or flow, from one pose to the next, rather than holding one pose for a longer time. Some of our specialty classes, such as stretching, will be in a different format. Check each class description on the schedule for details. If you are starting out, the best classes to start off with are Yoga 4 Everybody (Tues 9.30a, Fri 6.30p) , Gentle Yoga (Saturdays 11a) beware the Tuesday and Thursday "Gentle Yoga with a Twist" is NOT a true gentle class. We have a class called "Yoga for a Healthy Back" that is geared toward folks who know yoga will help their back but are concerned that a regular class would not be appropriate Mon, Thurs 9.30a. We now offer Dharma Yoga which has less instruction, there is a basic assumption that the student knows the basics the focus is on backbends and inversions. Power Yoga classes invite the students to play with arm balances, sweat and increase cardio and muscular strength. Core Abs classes focus on toning the abs. Rise and Shine Yoga classes are a mix of both!!
