The cooperative has gone on to implement comprehensive measures to improve coffee quality & production. In addition to educating its members about sustainable farming practices & providing technical agricultural assistance, CooproNarajo helps small farmers to obtain Rainforest Alliance certification. Our Naranjo beans come from four farms in the West Valley region that have obtained this certification. The cooperative encourages its members & the farming community to observe more sustainable production methods & to eschew agrochemicals in favor of vermicompost.

Indonesian and Island Coffees
Bali Kintamani

The islandâs volcanic landscape contributes to its excellent fertility, & its towering mountain ranges encourage the high rainfall that supports a highly productive agricultural sector. The Kintamani highlands sit atop a large volcanic plateau between 3,600 â 4,800 feet in altitude. Coffee tree varieties include a high percentage of Bourbon & Typica, along w/ essential shade trees such as Erythrina, Albizia, Tangerine & Orange. Sumatra Gayo Mountain
13.00 - 75.00
Arabica coffee production in Sumatra began in the 18th century under Dutch colonial rule & was first introduced to the northern region of Aceh, around Lake Tawar. The Permata Gayo Cooperative was formed in 2006 by 50 coffee farmers spread throughout five villages in the Bandar sub-district of Aceh. Farmers were brought together by collective hardship. A decade-long civil war had only recently ended, & in 2004 a 9.2 magnitude earthquake just off the coast of Sumatra triggered a devastating tsunami, completely wiping out farms & villages. The purpose of the cooperative was to kick-start production again w/ a focus on organic farming, which would not only benefit the health & well-being of the surviving communities, but would also raise valuable premiums needed to rebuild & reinvest in the area.
Sulawesi Toranja
14.00 per (12 oz can)
South of the Phillipines, west of Papua New Guinea, north of Australia, & east of Malaysia, Sulawesi is an ancient island formed over 100 million years ago. Because it was always separate from the Asian & Australian landmasses, the island enjoys a unique geological profile, which farmers believe results in a different flavor profile for their coffees. Sulawesi coffee is generally more smoky & spicy than its sister product from nearby Sumatra. Our beans are grown in the southwest of the island by a tribe called the Toraja, who use strictly organic methods to grow their crops. These communities produce a very small amount of coffee annually, so availability is limited. Enjoy the can youâve secured!

Mocha Java
13.00 - 75.00
The Mochaâ Java blends dates from the 18th century, at a time when Europeans had a fairly limited menu of coffees to choose from. Mocha, âthe worldâs original commercial coffeeâ, is named after the Yemeni port of Mokha, or al-MukhÄ, where beans from across Eastern Africa were traded & exported. At that time Yemen controlled most of the trade moving between the Arab world & the Indian Ocean, & also received beans from Java, an Indonesian island recently colonized by the Dutch, who had introduced coffee cultivation. Inevitably, these two coffees came together to form the worldâs first blend. BRCâs twist on this centuries-old classic combines a dark-roasted bean from Sumatra, a little further north along the Indonesian archipelago, w/ a washed heirloom Arabica from the mountains of Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee.
Bespoke
13.00 - 75.00
In May 2012, we developed our Bespoke blend as an homage to the virtuous vĂŠlo & in recognition of National Bike Month. Both the Finca Ceylan & Santa Barbara estates are acknowledged for their commitment to sustainability & environmental awareness â something we cyclists are conscious of too.

A combination of our Colombia Santa Barbara & Ethiopian Oromo Guji, our Coji Cold Brew marries the toasty, malted, savory flavors of the Colombian w/ the blueberry/cherry fruity notes of the Ethiopian, resulting in a clean, balanced, refreshing drink. Cold brew is coarsely ground (similar to a French press grind) , put in cloth bags, & immersed in water for 24 hours. Itâs stirred two or three times during that period. Then itâs served over ice. Enjoy this summertime (year-round?) treat.

Just a few years later, 1900 farming families were working together through La Florida, representing 36 communal groups including Peruvian Sierra colonies & indigenous communities of the valleys of Yurinaki, Ubiriki, Perene & the central upper Peruvian jungle. Over the past few decades, the group has become Fair Trade, Utz & organic certified.
