After living in DC for 5 years, here is an accumulation of some of my favorite must-go-to hot spots. Whether it be late night bar hopping, romantic wine tasting, quick-stop snacking, or fine dining.
John: Hands down the best authentic Italian D.O.C. pizza south of Jersey and one of the only restaurants to serve "suppli" -- a fried-cheesy-ricey delight tasting like its directly from the "Old Country."
Mediterranean Restaurant · Downtown-Penn Quarter-Chinatown · 410 tips and reviews
John: One of the only places where I consider the bread and accompanying "dip" a decadent delight...and that's not even touching on the fantastic tapas plates! Service is spotty though.
Irish Pub · Northwest Washington · 52 tips and reviews
John: Named after the White House architect -- an Irish immigrant who planned the first White House design AND the second after it was burned down in 1813 during the War of 1812.
Italian Restaurant · Northwest Washington · 64 tips and reviews
John: Though the brick oven pizza is second to 2 Amy's, the establishment still offers its own niche in Italian food -- such as a superior antipasti spread and delicious pastas -- that the former does not.
808 7th St. NW (btwn H & I Sts. NW), Washington, D.C.
Irish Pub · Chinatown · 97 tips and reviews
John: "Gaelic Pub" is probably a better title for this establishment as it is a higher caliber and arguably more "Irish" pub than any other Irish bar in DC sporting the genre. A fantastic, euro-feel place
Seafood Restaurant · Georgetown · 129 tips and reviews
John: Awesome outdoor bar with a beautiful view to the Georgetown Waterfront. A must for all visiting or living in DC. Make sure to get the ice bucket of Coronas in the Summer
American Restaurant · U-Street · 356 tips and reviews
John: Forget the hippy ambiance and ultra overdose of liberal paraphernalia, you'll keep going back for one of the best brunches DC has to offer. Can we say Eggs Benedict with Maryland crab? Yes.
