Opened in November 1983 by owner Peter Gatien, the New York Limelight originally started as a disco & rock club. In Sept. 2003, it reopened under the name "Avalon"; closing its doors for good in 2007.

Walk all the way to the back on the first floor to find great salads, sandwiches, cheese and gelato. All the perfect fixings for a picnic in Madison Square Park or a quick work respite at your desk.

Old church made into a night club and got converted into shopping center? Outside never changed but inside definitely is more nightclub-ish black and white color scheme. Now Grimaldi is there

The 2003 film Party Monster, starring Macaulay Culkin & Seth Green, was based on party promoter Michael Alig's killing and dismemberment of Angel Melendez, a drug dealer at New York's Limelight Club.

This 25000-square-foot former eighties nightclub (and, before that, a church) was converted into a shopping emporium in May 2010. Check out the stained glass windows.

Scoop up men's and women's perfumes from The Avery Perfumes, baubles and bangles from the Old Hollywood line of jewelry, or indulge in a mini-makeover from Face Stockholm.

In the 80s, it was one of the city's hottest clubs. In recent years it's been refashioned as a luxury shopping mall of sorts. Only in New York.

The better shops are on the second floor: Japanese toys at Zakka, vintage jewelry and knick knacks from Old Hollywood, and free cookie samples from Ruby et Violette.
