- W magazineAugust 1, 2014The vistas from the upper floors are top-notch—and while staring down at the city below, one can take comfort in the fact that the Clift was built as the city’s first earthquake-proof hotel. Read moreUpvoted 1 week ago

- Annie JJuly 26, 2012If you're looking for a nice relaxing place to stay, look elsewhere! You will be disrupted by drunks wondering the hotel at nights. Rooms are tiny and outdated - don't be fooled by the modern lobby!
- Liz McLean KnightJune 9, 2016The Harry Potter-esque moving portraits with back-stories in the redwood-clad bar will make you keep glancing at throughout the night and interpret their gazes. Oh and the cocktails are beautiful, too
- Lindsay EyinkMarch 13, 2016High end hookers & blow. Bouncers at the lobby & elevator on Sat. Coffee in the lobby is gone at 10am & no coffee in room. $29 OK breakfast ends early. "You don't want to know what goes on here."
- Sabine HannegerJune 4, 2017We stay for 4 days here and we are happy with all. And happy that we have a so nice Bar with fantastic cocktails... 👍🏻Tequilla old fashioned 🙃
- W magazineAugust 1, 2014The lobby, just inside the building’s classic façade, is a wonderfully eclectic eyeful—Eames chairs with a Salvador Dali table, next to a Renee Marguerite stool, grounded by a bronze chimney sculpture Read more
- Amy GallNovember 28, 2013Love this place! So chic and lounge-y ;) esp on the last Thursday of every month when they have this great happy hour event called Bardot with live music and great drinks!
- As of today the Clift is no longer part of the Morgans Hotel Group....sad to see them go. Hope new Sonesta management maintains the vibe.
- Get the Black Berry Margarita and check out the 100 year old chair that survived the earth quick by the elevator. Prost!
- Don't miss out on the Room service. Particularly for breakfast. Bacon is excellent, as is the salmon and egg croissant, good coffee, etc. Service is great in everything they do.
- Nespresso USADecember 10, 2012Take your cup of coffee to the Living Room. The velvet sofas, leather-wing chairs and artistic portraits create the perfect atmosphere to sip and enjoy!

- Gorgeous and dramatic lobby, with great cocktails at the Redwood Room! That said, the rooms are small and there is a better value to hipness ratio elsewhere.
- John NicholsJanuary 2, 2013Fantastic ambiance. The receptionist was always helpful. My room was clean and warm. And the New Years party in the club... Amazing.
- Dar DarAugust 11, 2014The Lobby is dope. The bathrooms in the rooms are dope. I always judge the hotel by the bathroom and these bathrooms do not disappoint. :)
- Christian DeBonvilleMarch 11, 2013Huge rooms with nice features (Geneva sound system, flat screen HD TV, malin + goetz toiletries. Dark, swanky lobby with popular bar downstairs.
- DJ AM MoJanuary 21, 2014Incredible place. Have your dinner by the pool. Will remind you of Teddys at the Roosevelt hotel in Hollywood.
- John DiddyMarch 15, 2018Stylish bar! Fabulous rooms... live music on the night I was over. Recommended! 😊
- I love the Clift. I love all the Morgan's hotels I've stayed at. Stylish, discrete and rocking toiletries. Upgrade to a suite if you want to completely indulge yourself. Bathrooms could be more posh.
- 2 things to ask for at check-in: 1) a room not adjacent to the service elevator; 2) a room on a high floor (b/c of creaking and street noise, respectively)
- Martin RedigoloNovember 4, 2012Why does Philippe Starck always put so little light in his hotels? Maybe he wants to protect your eyes from too much kitsch! ;)
- Renato Valdes OlmosMarch 5, 2011High end prostitutes and cocktails. Douchey douchebags and golddiggers. Experience this one properly: dress up and and get a bottle of champagne.
- Amanda Van WestDecember 5, 2011Relax in the Living Room while browsing my content and free music! Then use your new music knowledge as a convo starter for that lone person in the chair nearby
- Marcel ChaconMay 16, 2013Beautiful decoration. Great bar. Nearby to Union Square. The rooms are nice but the walls are too thin. Overall it is a nice place to stay.
- Otel.comMay 1, 2012The hotel's well-equipped fitness centre is where you can have a workout anytime, as it's open 24 hours a day. http://j.mp/Clift_Hotel
- Decent rooms, good bar and good breakfast. What more do you need in a hotel?
- Otel.comSeptember 4, 2012If you want added luxury, book the private apartment which features a beautiful fireplace and Starck-designed furnishings.
- Emily EmerJune 21, 2012Great hotel but be prepared for it to be noisy at night! Staff is great about keeping it down. Breakfast in the am is yummy!
- National Geographic Traveller (UK)October 1, 2014No, you haven’t fallen down the rabbit hole; the throne, oversized lamp and antler-covered chair in the lobby are the work of Philippe Starck. Read more
- Scott HargrovesAugust 20, 2016The best hotel I've found in San Francisco. Pricey, but smells dead good.
- French TuesdaysApril 5, 2012Quick tip, if looking for a semi-private and bigger restroom, go up the stairs across from the elevator to find a secret floor.
- Steve PolandApril 28, 2012Really nice hotel, modern. 15th floor has a rentable space for small conferences (40 ppl).
- Stephen @Huxley JohnsonApril 11, 2010Arrived post 16 hr flight, check-in chaos. Staff clueless, pre-confirmed studio suite filled. Only room left right next to service lift (noisier than a Metro!) Studio (finally) good. Doormen excellent Read more
