    Great museum with great artwork. Definitely worth the visit. Plus, persons under the age of 17 can enter the museum for free, with a document that proves the age (i. e. passport)

    The audio guide, here called "multimedia tour", is an iOS app: if you already have an iOS device, you don't need to pay the 5€ to rent a device: you can just download the Rijksmuseum app on the Store!

    Download the museum's free app using their free wifi. It's exactly the same as the audio guide that costs €5. Look for numbers next to the pieces: gives you an idea which paintings to focus on.

    Ofcourse it's great for early art and the masters. But don't forget the upper part, 20th century modern art. Some nice pieces there!

    If the cafe is full, go to the coffee bar down the large staircase. They have good coffee, great fresh brownies, and Dutch ‘stroopwafels’.

    Book online. It takes a few minutes and you don't need to print the tickets as you can download them as an e-ticket which they scan on the door. A great way to avoid the queues!

    Aussies shouldn't forget to find Hartog's plate (the oldest European artifact to have been found in Australia) which is practically hidden in a completely nondescript cabinet.

    Buy your ticket online or at the counter in front of the museum (cards only) if you don't like to stand in line...(for a long time). Try to come early if you don't like crowds.

    Go on an off-day (i.e. Monday) when the wait is not long to get into the museum and not as crowded. Very impressive collection of Dutch art like Vermeer and Rembrandt.

    Go in the morning, I got to wander almost completely alone! Think it would have been better with a guide or if you learn a little bit about the art beforehand.

    Great place, at least 2-3h required. Buy tickets one day before & download applications - will make life easier, instead of audio guides. Morning is better, avoid long queues.

    You don't need to book the multimedia tour. You just need the free app. It's the same that you get with the iPod Touch from the counter. It's also free wifi in the museum.

    Quite big. You can download the audio tour app on your cellphone for free - I think it's the same version with that you can buy from front desk. However, I don't think you really need it.
