Welcome to Amsterdam! Do not use the taxi system. Public transport is fantastic and easy. Just get a 1/2/3/4 day pass, an anonymous OV chipkaart, or better yet, an iamsterdam card.
Its nice to take a time relaxing, before go on with our journey. Just enjoying the atmosphere and contacting home via free wifi while sitting in front of a cup of cappuccino....
Connections through AMS can range from extremely close to a 15-20 minute walk away. Make sure to follow the directions when landing and find the correct spot to get your connecting tickets.
Want some tasty Dutch treats to take back home - buy all your non-liquids in the Albert Heijn supermarket near the rail ticket office. Cheaper than inside the departure gate area.
It’s huge so leave plenty of time to get to your gate. The lost and found department were very helpful (yep I left a bag at the airport and didn’t have time to go back before boarding. They found it!)
In my opinion one of the best airports in the world. Good security that uses the latest techniques, clean and lots of shops once you get through border security
Huge airport! It took me around 20 minutes to get from my arrival to the departure gate. Free Wi-Fi. Several stores to fill your belly while waiting. Very clean, nice, and warm.
I love Amsterdam. The view from above as we land is divine. And it's because the Dutch pushed back the ocean waters and made it that way. Imagine what else is possible.
Feels crowded due to compactness and low ceilings. Many shops and restaurants before and after security. Signage is excessive and sometimes incorrect. I-Amsterdam sign outside in case you missed it
Feeling stiff after a long flight? No worries, this airport will put you through about a month's worth of exercise going from gate to gate. And if you choose to go by moving walkway: mind your step.
One of the best airports in the world. Best food is the León before security. Only complaint is a lot of walking from some gates; give yourself plenty of time.
Happy Seafood (in the railway station area) has some nice smoked eel and pickledherringsandwiches at a much better price than the better known Bubbles seafoodbar (past security)
Big nice airport. Exhaustive security check, it takes time to go through it and find your gate, so be cautious and go with enough time. Easy to reach from Amsterdam Centraal train station, costs 3.90€
Self service restaurant La Plage. Food prepared freshly for you. Ordered a fresh beefentrecôtesteak. Cooked medium rare with fresh fries. Very good . SmoothieBar too.
Concerts over the airport for some Christmas spirit :) good airport to be "stuck", lots of options and nice lounges.lockers for 7€ (M) or 9€ (L) for 24h
Terminal 3: even if you don't have any lounge access you should go to the 2nd floor right after the passport control. Those meditation center lounge chairs are quite comft
Tips: Enjoy the free Wifi, take home some delicious Stroopwaffles, and relax upstairs at the meditationlounge with stretch out reclining chairs! Peaceful and relaxing!
Great and amazing 6D Motion Rides while wait for (connecting) flight at AMS. It's in Lounge 2 upper level, and next to XpressSpa and Network Bar. The rides last for 5 minutes, the experience for ever!
It is a miraculous airport, every things one can wish or be in the need for, it is available and within reach.Excellent selection of flower bulbs, great gift idea.
So if your layover is more than 5 hours, you can easily take the train to city center (9EUR) return ticket. If 24 hour layover, you can stay in YOTEL inside airport for 90 Euro.
Free wifi, security and passport control is very organized. Train station at the bottom level connects you to cities in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
Try Happy Harvest near concourse D. Great food. Flights to UK are from D06. Be a bit early as there is a recheck if you are doing transfers to UK from EU.
Hint: if luggage was checked in till final destination in dept airport press "no" when it asks about luggage. If you press "yes" there's a glitch that stops the machine from printing the boarding pass
Huge airport with lots of stuff to waste some time. It has been very clean when I went. Only minor down-side is that sometimes directions can become a bit confusing in this big of a place...
