For those who regularly get dragged into "secondary" immigration (the side room), lines here are *much* shorter than JFK. For this reason alone it may be worth booking your return trips through here.
Terminal A is a tiny sh*tshow, leave extra time for security & to be disappointed when you get to the gates. Terminal C is a well-oiled machine with endless amenities. Terminal B? Never heard of it.
ARRIVE EARLY! @TSA agents here (especially the supervisors) are LAZY as pigs in slop. If theres a line or its moving slow youre GUARANTEED to see agents sitting back, relaxing or shooting the breeze!
My favourite airport within the New York Area. It's the closest & most well architectured airport of them all.
Eat at SMASH BURGER! No, seriously abandon the Mc Donald's line, now. Male the trek down to the C-130's and don't forget to add an order of the rosemary garlic fries (SMASH FRIES)
Once one of my most hated airports, EWR is improving significantly every year. Still disorganized (shuttling between gates 😲), but less claustrophobic and nicer decor. Kudos on all the hard work.
This place is great to fly out of. Getting through TSA is always painless, they have lots of seating with charging ports if you need to charge up your phone. G

If you are used to the speed of airports abroad, be prepared to spend record time waiting for your luggage to reach the right belt after you have cleared immigration check.

Love United terminal C. The food options are numerous and the ordering is easy with tablets on each table

Lionel LimDecember 16, 2022The exits next to the baggage carousel lead to the exterior of the airport. If you are arriving in winter, it would be best to put on your warm clothes before exiting.
Leanna D.October 27, 2013If you want food (especially sitting down food) stay in C unless you're sure you want the Earl of Sandwich. EoS is really good, but it and a coffee place and a news kiosk are all that's here.
Fly into here for both NY and NJ and avoid the long queues at JFK as well as the crazy design of LGA. Also cheaper fares to boot at times!
Victoria OrdemanApril 25, 2014There are plugs landside in terminal C by the bathrooms. Every seat is cushionless and has armrests. The AC is blasting out freezing air. Only plus, Tony(Anthony) the realy old janitor is mega nice.
If you look like you travel often and are traveling alone, they'll often wave you through to express security. Pack light and wear slip on shoes. Have your ID ready before you reach the podium.
Ami H.August 31, 2016Sizable airport but pretty easy to navigate. Security scanners are a bit sassy (lippy) but they keep things moving. Ok charging stations. Boingo wifi is rubbish. 30 min free, wtf? 6 hour layover, Mr.!
There's a great store to buy kids toys on the second floor...reasonably priced. Also you can make an easy connection from the airport to NYC by train.
BuddyJuly 3, 2012Showed up at 1040 for an 1130 flight and actually had to wait for boarding about 15 minutes. If your flight is during the week, don't be worried if your running behind- you won't miss your flight!!!

Christy LandesAugust 1, 2015A good place for customs, immigration, security compared to iah. Reasonably efficient and most important, friendly staff. Good location for united lounge.
Meet your ride at departure level. Like arrivals level doors are labeled by terminal letter and door number so you'll be easy to find.
Incredibly busy airport. Come prepared and everyone will have a better experience!
Security is unpredictable. Get there extra early to be safe! Even if you have TSA pre-check, you must take your laptop out of the bag (B Terminal).
Dining options have improved greatly in the United terminal. Looks beautiful. That said - isn't it time to improve the bathrooms that seem like a tribute to the Port Authority in the 80s?- Wow! What a difference between old Terminal A and the new one. It’s like time travel. Seems like Newark airport is finally in 21st century. Playgrounds for kids and a lot of space.

- Chris MooreSeptember 8, 2018Terminal C is the newest as of late 2018. They are about to start on a big upgrade of B next. If you are taking the airtrain give yourself a ton of time. The thing is laughably small.
Good alternative for those that live in the west side of Manhattan. Train to/from NY Penn Station is convenient though it can be slow late at night
Use the meditation / prayer room in terminal C after the security area. Go towards gate 120 the meditation room is between the group room young travelers club and L'occitane
If you love wine, stop by Vin Volo across from gate C73 for a glass of wine and smaller food plates. A great way to prep for a long flight.

Garden State Diner, next to C109, is must!! Try the grilled cheese with tomato and the creole slaw!!

Why is this place always so chaotic? Everyone always seems like they’re not sure what’s going on. A little unsettling.
The earlier you arrive and follow the 3-1-1 rule, you're golden. These folks work hard and they are nice.
Security lines are abominable. Just think about it—we’re all be dead eventually, life is literally priceless, and one has to spend their finite life hours on queuing and listening to TSA yell at you.
Bingo Wi-Fi here! Terminal shuttle bus gates A29 & C71. Make sure you have plenty of time, as the buses run every 5 minutes and fill up fast.
When you arrive in the morning hold out for the Dunkin Donuts. There is one just as you come out of terminal A at the top of the steps from baggage claim for USAir. The also have breakfast sandwiches

The entrance is poorly marked, next to gate C71
Marta D.April 19, 2014I am honestly appalled by the lack of quality dining options in the C terminal. You'll wait in lines at the seated dining options, so the food court seems better... But be prepared for lukewarm food.
there's a Wendy's and Dunkin' tucked away in terminal C by gate C110.. sadly, it's the best food option in that wing
