TSA lines moved fast this morning. I don't get the tablet with the "tsa randomizer" app which tells you which line to go into. Seems like government overspending.
Do not bookflights on Southwest going to Kansas City where SAN is where you have to change planes. You may have to change terminals and go through security again.
Most, if not all, rental car companies are off site. Allow extra time if renting a car to take a shuttle. The airport is pretty small and it's very close to downtown.
The rental car shuttle waiting areas are a mess. No signs to alert which part of curb a particular company will park. So even if you were waiting the longest you may not get a place on shuttle #1.
Departing with Southwest? Food options in the small terminal are limited. A freshly toasted $8 bagel is a viable alternative to a pre-made $9 sandwich.
If there's a ridiculously long security line for Terminal 2 gates 35-41, walk to the security checkpoint on the east side of the terminal. It is almost always shorter.
Terminal 2 is exquisite and Terminal 1 is being remodeled with nice amenities. The free WiFi is below average though: difficult to log-in, slow speeds, and boots you after 30 min.
T2 is going through a remodel. They mapped out the worst ways to do a remodel and pushed 'GO'. Security is long, Starbucks line is literally 30 people long. one food vendor for 27 gates.
This facility is outdated, but at least I found electrical outlets near some seats at Gate 24. A few years ago, I sat on the floor with other travelers around the only outlet for 3 gates.
The food selection is beyond horrible - do not wait to eat at the airport before your flight. You will only have a small deli and California Pizza Kitchen to choose from.
