- Spencer VairoJanuary 4, 2015Filthy but helpful for getting from Manhattan to Forest Hills, Queens in under 15 minutes
- Christine BAugust 11, 2013In need of the bathroom and fast? It states for ticked passengers only in the waiting rooms/WCs, however, no one checks... ;)
- Have you ever arrived here at 1AM? It's really depressing after a 4-hour train delay from Montréal…
- Stare at the screens long enough, and your train will post. If it doesn't post on time, join the club.
- Charles CalabreseAugust 30, 2012Don't per the dogs being walked by men with large automatic weapons - neither of them like it
- People/tourist watching here can be mind-blowing.
- Trust me - you are better off waiting for NJT in the Amtrak section as compared to downstairs....
- Caroline WatsonDecember 22, 2011Wear a bathing suit if you plan to wait for the Amtrak. It's hot as fiery balls in here.
- Like being in an episode of The Walking Dead late night.
- Beer is cheaper from the vendors on the Rotunda than on the lower level.
- Surprisingly there are no Starbucks in Penn. Plenty out on the street though!
- Marco KMarch 29, 2012$7 Guinness in the TGI Friday near the departure board. Not bad for an Amtrak facility
- I only use Penn because I have to. I think the same goes for many.
- The Red Mango here should be called Red "We Know You're Waiting For A Train But We Don't Want To Serve You" Mango.
- Stand by the Acela Club follow for early gate departure
- The escalator worked and it didn't smell like fart. The vegetarian chili also tasted good.
- Some electrical outlets in the NJ Transit/Amtrak waiting area don't work, so make sure to check if your device is actually charging after you plug in.
- There are work areas with plugs in the Amtrak waiting area directly behind track 9.
- From the subway, you have to go up the stairs. You can find the bathrooms next to Fridays.
- Use the bathroom across the street at the mall or at the "gates" for Amtrak, not the main waiting area. All other ones were built on hobo burial grounds.
- One of the single most depressing stations I have ever been.
- Walk with the crowd, meaning with purpose. I hate when people who have no idea where they're going stop at the top of the escalators blocking everyone else trying to get through
- buy your ticket last minute while standing in line, but use your iPhone to do it. sometimes they have empty seats on booked buses and you can skip the line.
- Grab an Aunt Annie's pretzel dog around the corner from the main NJT marquee. The Aunt Annie's kiosk in front of the toilets is aptly stationed.
- Eating a falafel on NJTransit much more difficult/messier than anticipated - do not recommend!
- There's a great salad and sandwich place in here called Chickpea.
- Tracks are posted 10min prior. Be at station 20min before ur train to calmly get tickets and wait for track #
- Dan HoodAugust 8, 2013The Main Gate Area is seriously the worst place you can wait for an LIRR train here if you actually want to get a seat. You are better off waiting by the Central Corridor (by Kmart) or anywhere else.
- You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
- The Acela blocks access to Netflix on their WiFi. Resort to 3G for your entertainment experience.
- Crowded, dirty, trains rarely on-time and utterly Rude employees at the Amtrak. But- don't forget to try the vegetarian chili, delightful!
- New jersey transit and Amtrak suck more then the $10 homeless prostitutes in the station and there pretty good too.
- if ur lookin for nj transit tickets and the line is long, go downstairs there are tix machines there as well
