- Gloria ChinJuly 17, 2012Akamaru Modern Ramen, cheese ramen, pork belly buns and the japanese fried peppers
- Skip shishito peppers this week. I had a bitter, soapy tasting batch, 7/12. When asked for an alternative, the manager called me "spiteful" & claimed they were "perfect." So much for my rave reviews.
- Billy HenehanSeptember 20, 2012Order pork buns as your appetizer. Ask for extra flavor in your ramen. Thank me later.
- Natasha MoriniOctober 18, 2015Always a long wait unless you go right before the lunch rush during the week. Very good but limited menu.
- Get the pork buns (it's true; better than Momofoku) and Akamaru Modern. You will leave a very happy person.
- Jess LeungOctober 29, 2011Best Japanese ramen in NYC, as well as delicious pork buns. Prepare for the long wait, but leave immensely satisfied.
- Go at the beginning of lunch time to skip the line.. Even if there's a line it's always worth the wait.
- Pork belly buns, akamaru modern ramen, beer! Don't deliberate. Just do it!
- JessieJune 16, 2012Shishito ==> awesome; Hirata (pork) buns --> also fantastic. The Wasabi Ramen special needs to be brought back.
- Always come alone if you don't want to wait two hours! It's still just as good!
- ginny hDecember 10, 2010Ridiculously good pork belly buns that melt in your mouth. Ramen was good but not amazing. I've had similar if not better in California. Buns however may be worth the wait.
- don't miss the appetizers: pork buns, samurai ribs, goma kyuri, agedashi tofu, and the wings!
- Come at 5pm ( right before they open the store for dinner ) is the shortest wait u could possibly get.
- Makeda J.April 18, 2013Hands Down...the best fuckin' Ramen in New York!!!!! Awesome atmosphere too!!!! Most definately go!!
- Nicole CascinoSeptember 23, 2012Specials that includes a free bun. Also a fantastic selection of quality sake. Cheers!
- Samuel CrystalOctober 10, 2011Try and vary your noodle dishes around the table and try a little of each others as there is so much variation Read more
- Simon KFebruary 24, 2015Seemingly bought in noodles rather than freshly made, broth doesn't have much depth of flavour and ill-advised spring onion wipes out what little taste there is. Pork tastes like it's from a packet.
- Theresa GOctober 14, 2012worth the wait! start with the steamed pork buns and then try the the spicy miso ramen.
- Doug LNovember 26, 2012Go there early in the day to make a same-day reservation. Suckers just show up and put their name on the list
- chicken rice bowl is to die for. (and the akamaru modern is obviously delicious.)
- Marcos MejiaJuly 7, 2013They call you to be here in 5min because your table is ready then make you wait a half hour... Other than that the noodles and pork buns are good but Momofukus pork buns are better.
- The Wall Street JournalJune 9, 2010Beware: they only take same-day reservations, and the lunch crowd must wait five to 30 minutes in the front room. Complex $13 Ramen concoctions include the popular Akamaru and the Shiromaru. Read more
- Carrie MSeptember 20, 2010The Akumaru Modern is so so delicious. Charming ambiance, and everything on the menu seemed pretty awesome if the Akumaru doesn't float yer boat.
- Joan MatelliJuly 3, 2012Add mustard leaf to you ramen. Savory, rich, tasty, and not too heavy like an added egg.
- The pork buns are incredible! Definitely worth the waits and even better than Momofuku.
